The delightful market town of Masham is situated in the breathtakingly beautiful region of Lower Wensleydale. The town itself boasts a large Georgian market square, said to be one of the largest in England. With a range of local shops, tearooms and great places to eat, Masham is a popular destination all year round. Masham is also famous for its family-run breweries, steam engines and annual sheep fair. Both the Black Sheep Brewery and Theakston Brewery offer tours from their visitor centre.
With a thriving creative community, you can enjoy watercolour paintings, screen prints, poetry and much more from local artists. Artison run craft couses through-out the year.
Miles of stunning walks and bike trails can be enjoyed from the doorstep which allow you to explore the surroundings of the Yorkshire Dales from morning until night. Masham is often part of the Tour De Yorkshire route so if you’re interested in road cycling, you’ll find plenty of great routes around the area.
There are plenty of places to explore during your stay including Swinton Park, Hackfall Woods, Thorpe Perrow Arboretum, Forbidden Corner, Lightwater Valley and The Wensleydale Railway to name a few. The popular towns of Ripon, Thirsk, Northallerton, Richmond and Harrogate are within easy reach so you’ll have plenty of new places to discover.
Getting Around
Masham is only 15 minutes from the A1 so it’s very easily accessible by car. Harrogate and Darlington are only 40 minutes drive from Masham while York, Leeds, Newcastle and Teesside are all about an hour by car.
There are a large number of bus routes which run through Masham to other local towns and villages such as Ripon, Harrogate and Bedale allowing you to explore the area with ease.
The nearest train stations are Northallerton and Thirsk if you prefer to travel by rail.
